LFS EXTON – a live installable Linux system built from Linux From Scratch (which can run on ALL computers) with kernel 6.0.6-amd64-exton ::: Build 221103

LFS EXTON Linux live DVD/USB is built using Linux From Scratch 10.1/11.2 and Beyond Linux From Scratch 10.1/11.2 (BLFS) , which has the latest Linux packages and scripts.

NEWS 221103
A new version of LFS EXTON is ready! The first version is from 210706. Most important news re. the new version:
1. LFS EXTON Build 221103 runs on ALL computers. I. e. new and old ones. UEFI or non-UEFI computers. (Build 210706 was not compatible with some newer computers).
2. Build 221103 uses the latest kernel 6.0.6, released 221029.
The kernel is named 6.0.6-amd64-exton-rt14.
3. I have upgraded some essential packages. Most important Firefox.
4. I have installed two new packages: Gnu Emacs (“At its core is an interpreter for Emacs Lisp, a dialect of the Lisp programming language with extensions to support text editing”) and MPlayer (a movie player).
NOTE about MPlayer: To be able to play videos (and not just hear sound) you’ll have to install AAlib. Very easy to install. Just follow the instructions.
5. You can download the kernel-sources for LFS EXTON from SourceForge.net – linux-source-6.0.zip. Can be used if you want to install (for example) NVIDIA Graphics Drivers. Unpack and place the sources in /usr/src.

ABOUT Refracta Installer
I finally made Refracta Installer to work in LFS EXTON! Now you can install LFS EXTON to hard drive like any other Linux distribution. Just start Refracta Installer from the menu and follow the instructions. Watch this screenshot.
NOTE: You should create the install partition in advance. Use GParted for that.

LXDE and LightDM

LFS EXTON uses LXDE as Desktop environment. LXDE is designed to be user friendly and slim, while keeping the resource usage low. LFS EXTON has all the tools needed for you to go on and install other Desktop environments or whatever you like (after a hard drive installation of LFS EXTON).

Build your own Linux system
You can also just use LFS EXTON Live DVD/USB as build environment when building your own Linux system from scratch.

Install LFS EXTON to a USB stick
Install the ISO file to a USB stick with Rufus 3.20 in Windows. It will look like this.

LOGIN to LXDE
Login as root with password root$$ or as the ordinary user lfs with password linux$$. While logged in as lfs you can use Sudo to become root. Example commands: sudo su and sudo pcmanfm. LightDM‘s login screen will look like this.

Install to hard drive using Refracta Installer
1. Start Refracta Installer from the menu and follow the program instructions. Watch this screenshot.
2. Install options – screenshot.
3. Ready to install – screenshot.
4. When asked to chroot and install Grubscreenshot.
5. Keep current user (lfs) and root passwords – screenshot.
6. When the installation is complete you will see this – screenshot.
7. Notice the disk space used after installation to hard drive – screenshot.
8. For user lfs to be able to use Sudo after a hard drive installation you’ll have to edit /etc/sudoers as root with Nano or Mousepad. Add this line to the end:
lfs ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD:ALLscreenshot.
NOTE: If you already use Grub as boot loader you shall refrain from installing Grub when installing LFS EXTON to hard drive. Just add the boot lines below to /boot/grub/grub.cfg on the partition where you have Grub installed. You shall (of course) never mess with your current EFI Grub installation. LFS EXTON can run on EFI computers, but you can’t make an EFI Grub installation using LFS EXTON.

NOTE: You can install LFS EXTON on any normal computer. If you want to do that you should at first read my instruction How To dual boot, triple boot or multi boot Linux with Windows in a simple way and be happy. The Grub boot lines for LFS EXTON in /boot/grub/grub.cfg can look like this:
#################################################
menuentry ‘LFS EXTON 221103 (/dev/sda6)’ –class lfs –class gnu-linux –class gnu –class os $menuentry_id_option ‘gnulinux-simple-191fccec-4ecc-48b2-879d-504f9a2ad365’ {

###############################################

Kernel

LFS EXTON uses my “special” kernel 6.0.3-amd64-exton-rt14. You can of course compile you own LFS kernel if you want.

“Normal” use of the system
You can also use LFS EXTON as any other “normal” Linux system. You can for example run Netflix in Firefox.

Running in VirtualBox/VMware
Form some unknown reason LFS EXTON doesn’t work so well in VirtualBox. You can, however, run it in VirtualBox if you add nomodeset to the boot line when booting up LFS from the ISO file in VirtualBox. Just press TAB before the boot process starts. You can, however, run LFS EXTON without any problems in QEMU in Linux and in VMware in Windows. Watch this screenshot (running in QEMU in Linux) and this screenshot (running in VMware in Windows 11). I even managed to install LFS EXTON in VirtualBox in Linux. Not easy, but it can be done. With the help of the provided kernel sources (SourceForge.net – linux-source-6.0.zip) I also could install VirtualBox Guest Additions so that LFS EXTON can run in full screen. Watch this screenshot…

Error during the boot process
During the boot process you will see a error message about ssh. Just press ENTER and the boot process will continue. After a hard drive installation you can get rid of the error message by running the following commands as root.
1. cd /etc/ssh
2. ssh-keygen -A
3. /etc/init.d/sshd start

Sound in LFS EXTON
You will only have sound when logged in to LXDE as the normal user lfs. Use Pavucontrol (PulseAudio Volume Control).

How to mount NTFS partitions read and write
Just run two commands as root (example)
1. mkdir /dev/sdd1
2. ntfs-3g /dev/sdd1 /mnt/sdd1

Run it fast!
The system is quite fast and responsive. You can run LFS EXTON live super fast from RAM. When the boot process is ready you can eject the DVD or USB stick – screenshot. Use Boot alternative 2 or Advanced options… >> load to RAM. Watch the live boot screen below.)

DOWNLOAD
LFS EXTON 64bit version 221103 can be downloaded from SourceForge.netFast, secure and free downloads from the largest Open Source applications and software directory.

CruxEX 3.7 live system (based on CRUX 3.7, released 220926) with LXDE and kernel 6.0.6-aufs-exton :: Build 221031

CruxEX 2022 64 bit Linux Live USB is based on CRUX 3.7 (latest version, released 220926), which is all Linux enthusiasts/nerds favorite OS. (CRUX is a lightweight Linux distribution for the x86_64 architecture targeted at experienced Linux users. The primary focus of this distribution is keep it simple, which is reflected in a straightforward tar.gz-based package system, BSD-style initscripts, and a relatively small collection of trimmed packages. The secondary focus is utilization of new Linux features and recent tools and libraries. CRUX also has a ports system which makes it easy to install and upgrade applications). CruxEX 3.7 2022 uses the LXDE Desktop environment. I have replaced the original CRUX kernel 5.15 with “my” special kernel 6.0.6-aufs-exton, with support for “extra everything”.

Unique
CruxEX 3.7 2022 build 221031 is – as my previous CRUX-remasters – unique in the world. I.e. there is no other CRUX Live CD/USB (as far as I know). In any case, not for downloading. The good thing with CruxEX is that it is a live system (which CRUX original isn’t) and that you can run CruxEX super fast from RAM. Also that you can install CruxEX to hard drive in about 5 minutes and then have a ready-to-go CRUX desktop system. You can after that install any (extra) desktop environment you like. NOTE: You can (of course) install new Desktops environments and other stuff also when running CruxEX from a USB stick – PERSISTENCE! Note also: To make CRUX original ready for everyday use will normally take 2 – 3 days!

DebEX KDE Plasma, Build 220929, with kernel 6.0.0-rc6-exton and Refracta Snapshot

NEWS 220929 about DebEX KDE Plasma – a Refracta Build
I have made a new version of DebEX KDE Plasma Live DVDefi. It replaces version 211023. It’s a pure Debian 11 system. (Stable). I.e.: There are no Ubuntu or Kubuntu elements involved. DebEX KDE Plasma uses the KDE Plasma Desktop 5.20.5 as Desktop environment. Kernel 6.0.0-rc6-exton is used. I have replaced Wicd with NetworkManager. It works better. I have replaced Google Chrome with Firefox-ESR/Iceweasel 102.3 (for Netflix). I’ve also added SMPlayer – an alternative to Vlc. (SMPlayer is a free media player for Windows and Linux with built-in codecs that can play virtually all video and audio formats. It doesn’t need any external codecs. Just install SMPlayer and you’ll be able to play all formats without the hassle to find and install codec packs). All other installed packages have also been updated to the latest version of 220929. Study the full package list.

MOST IMPORTANT CHANGES
A) I’ve installed the full KDE Plasma Desktop using the command sudo apt install task-kde-desktop. In order to save space I have removed LibreOffice with the command sudo apt remove libreoffice*
B) I have added Calamares 3.2.36.1 Installer Framework. Now you can choose language when the installation starts. When it’s ready everything will be in your chosen language! You can even use Calamares in VirtualBox and VMware – i.e. non-efi computers if you follow my INSTRUCTION for non-efi computers. Or don’t do that. Just start Calamares and choose to install Grub in MBR. It works very well!
NOTE: You can also use Refracta Installer. Preferably in VirtualBox/VMware. NOTE ALSO: When running DebEX KDE in VirtualBox you can do it in full screen since VirtualBox Guest Additions are pre-installed. Watch this screenshot.

THE REAL McCoy
DebEX is a pure Debian system. I.e. no traces of Ubuntu, Kubuntu etc. New releases of Ubuntu are always based on Debian. So is DebEX.

SCREENSHOTS
1. The ordinary user Desktop
2. Root’s Desktop
3. Running DebEX in full screen in VirtualBox

ExTiX 22.9 KDE Plasma together with Anbox (“Android in a Box” with Google Play Store pre-installed) :: Build 220922

ABOUT ExTiX 22.9 – Build 220922
I have made a new version of ExTiX – The Ultimate Linux System. I call it ExTiX 22.9 KDE Anbox Live DVD. (The previous KDE/Anbox version was 21.10 from 211007). I have now included Anbox (Android in a Box – Anbox puts the Android operating system into a container, abstracts hardware access and integrates core system services into a GNU/Linux system. Every Android application will be integrated with your operating system like any other native application). So now you can run Android apps in ExTiX. GAPPS (Google Play Services and Google Play Store) are pre-installed in ExTiX 22.9. The second best thing with ExTiX 22.9 is that while running the system live (from DVD/USB) or from hard drive you can use Refracta Snapshot (pre-installed) to create your own live installable Ubuntu/Anbox system. So easy that a ten year child can do it!

ExTiX 22.9 KDE Plasma DVD 64 bit is based on Debian and Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS. The original system includes the Desktop Environment Gnome. After removing Gnome I have installed KDE Frameworks 5.92.0 with KDE Plasma 5.24.6. KDE Frameworks are 60 addon libraries to Qt which provide a wide variety of commonly needed functionality in mature, peer reviewed and well tested libraries with friendly licensing terms.

The system language is ENGLISH.

Used KERNEL
Ubuntu’s latest original kernel 5.15.0-47 with binder and ashmem kernel modules needed by Anbox.

NEWS ABOUT ExTiX 22.9 Build 220922 with the KDE Plasma Desktop environment together with Anbox (Android in a Box), Refracta Installer and Refracta Snapshot
1. ExTiX KDE Plasma is based on Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS Jammy Jellyfish. KDE Plasma is used as Desktop environment together with Anbox (Android in a Box). All packages have been updated to the latest version by 220922.
2. I have pre-installed Anbox (Android in a Box) with Google Play Store. So GAPPS (Google Play Services and Google Play Store) are pre-installed in this version of ExTiX. Anbox won’t run live (from a DVD or a USB stick) or in VirtualBox. You will get this error message. That’s because VirtualBox as of yet does NOT support nested virtualization. In this version of ExTiX KDE/Anbox you can run the YouTube app with good video and sound quality. Not with the very best quality, but…
IMPORTANT NOTE: On some computers you may not be able to start Anbox from the menu. If that is the case you shall open up a terminal and run the following two commands:
snap disable anbox && snap enable anbox FOLLOWED by:
EGL_PLATFORM=x11 anbox.appmgr
Or maybe this command on certain computers: DRI_PRIME=1 anbox.appmgr
3. Other included important/useful packages are: GParted GCC and other compilation tools so that you can install packages from source. Furthermore “all” multimedia codecs. Everything the average Linux user could wish for I would say.
4. VirtualBox Guest Additions are pre-installed, which means (among other things) that you can run ExTiX 22.9 in full screen in VirtualBox. Watch this screenshot.
5. The second best thing with ExTiX 22.9 is that while running the system live (from DVD/USB) or from hard drive you can use Refracta Snapshot (pre-installed) to create your own live installable Ubuntu system. Very easy to do. When starting Refracta Snapshot you will see this.

How to (force) install Windows 11 on an old computer

HOW TO INSTALL WINDOWS 11 ON AN OLD COMPUTER THAT DOES NOT MEET MICROSOFT’S REQUIREMENTS FOR NEWER HARDWARE

I have 5 – 10 Linux systems installed on my four computers along with Windows. It is fine to “multi-boot” all systems. I have made an instruction for this, which I call “How-to dual-boot, triple-boot or multi-boot Linux with Windows in a simple way and be happy“.
Two of my computers are purchased with Windows 11 pre-installed. My other two computers do not meet Microsoft’s “official” requirements to install or run Windows 11.

Now, however, I have found a script that enables installations of Windows 11 on computers that do not by any means meet Microsoft’s requirements for hardware. A prerequisite is that Windows 10 is installed on the computer in question and that the license is valid. It’s all quite simple. Do this:

1. Download and install 7-Zip. Current script requires 7-Zip to be installed.

2. Create a Windows 11 ISO file using MediaCreationToolW11.exe.

So select “Create Windows 11 Installation Media”. Important!

3. Download the miracle script “Force-Windows-11-Install“.

4. Follow the instructions in the YouTube video “Install Windows 11 on Anything!!!

A) Put the created ISO file into the unzipped Force-Windows-11-Install-main.zip (Force-Windows-11-Install-main).

B) Double-click env.bat in the Force-Windows-11-Install-main folder. A PowerShell window will then open. You are then in the Force-Windows-11-Install-main folder.

C) Type the command: Set-ExecutionPolicy -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted

Then press ENTER

D) Type the command: .\Win11-TPM-RegBypass.ps1 -Source “Windows.iso” -Destination “Win11-New.iso”

Then press ENTER

E) The new ISO file Win11-New.iso is now created. Wait until you get a message that the ISO file is ready. At the end, a new terminal window will open. Don’t close it!

F) Once the ISO file is ready, run one last command:
.\Win11-TPM-RegBypass.ps1 -PrepareUpgrade
Then press ENTER again and respond with R (run once). After that, you can close the PowerShell window.

G) Now you will do the actual installation. First, open the new ISO file Win11-New.iso (which should be in the folder Force-Windows-11-Install-main). Double-click setup (setup.exe) and the installation will start.

Follow the instructions. The computer will restart a number of times during the installation.

I have recently used the script on two of my older computers. Everything worked perfectly. Windows 11 is even faster on these computers than Windows 10 was. Microsoft’s hardware requirements for Windows 11 therefore do not seem particularly justified.

The image below shows how it looked on one of my computers when the script was running.

ArchEX (Arch Linux) “Mini” with LXQt 1.1.0, all Arch Linux installation scripts, VirtualBox Guest Additions and kernel 5.19.6 (latest) :: Build 220904

NEWS ABOUT ArchEX 220904
I’ve made a new extra “Mini” version of ArchEX. It has four advantages compared with ArchEX Build 220901.

A) This ArchEX build is smaller. The ISO file is “only” of 1740 MB compered with Build 220901 which is of 4010 MB. This is of importance since ArchEX can run very fast live from RAM. So your computer needs lesser RAM to run Build 220904. Should be enough with 2 GB. NOTE: I was hoping to make the ISO file even smaller, but that was impossible since Calamares Installer has a lot of dependencies.

B) ArchEX Build 220904 has all Arch Linux original installation scripts, which means that you can use this build to install Arch Linux “the Arch way” following the Installation Guide. Or you can just follow my example here. You can have my instructions up in Firefox while installing as this screenshot shows. When installing from Arch Linux official live DVD you’ll have to do it in console mode. (Could be tricky).

C) If you install Arch Linux (or ArchEX using Calamares) in VirtualBox or Qemu you can do it in full screen. VirtualBox Guest Additions are pre-installed in ArchEX Build 220904 (and Build 220901). Watch this screenshot. In Qemu you can just choose the screen resolution you want.

D) ArchEX Build 220904 uses kernel 5.19.6 (latest) and has support for more wireless cards. Kernel modules ath10k and wl are loaded also when running ArchEX live, which obviously means a lot.

ArchEX (Arch Linux) Live with Deepin 20.7, GNOME 42, Gnome Classic, LXQt 1.1.0, LXDE, kernel 5.19.5-arch1-1, Yay, Spotify and Calamares Installer – Build 220905 and 220904

NEWS ABOUT ArchEX 220905
Today I discovered that I had forgot to add “cowspace” (sudo mount -o remount,size=2G /run/archiso/cowspace) in ArchEX Build 220901. I therefore had to upload a new ArchEX version today (220905). This version uses kernel 5.19.6 and has more support for various wireless cards.

NEWS about ArchEX 220901
A new version of ArchEX is ready! In this new version, which I call ArchEX 2022, I have added the Deepin 20.7 (latest) Desktop Environment (DE). Deepin DE (made in China!) is devoted to providing a beautiful, easy to use, safe and reliable system for global users. I came to like Deepin DE very much when I installed it in ExTiX 22.6. So I thought why not install Deepin DE also in ArchEX? Furthermore I have added the GNOME 42 (latest) and LXQt 1.1.0-1 (latest) Desktop environments. As “extra” Desktop environments I’ve added Gnome Classic and LXDE. So altogether five (5) different Desktops environments to try out while running ArchEX live or from hard drive! Note that you can run ArchEX in full screen in VirtualBox directly from the ISO file since VirtualBox Guest Additions are pre-installed!

Study all installed packages in ArchEX 2022 with Deepin/GNOME 42/Gnome Classic/LXQt/LXDE.

BENEFITS of ArchEX/Arch Linux
“Cutting Edge”-software and speed. You will for example always run the latest kernel if you upgrade ArchEX/Arch (for example) every month.  You can very easy install ArchEX to hard drive in any language using Calamares Installer. Also in VirtualBox/VMware without any hassle.

ExTiX 22.8 – “The Ultimate Linux System” – based on Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS with LXQt 0.17, Refracta Snapshot and kernel 5.19.0-amd64-exton :: Build 220814

ExTiX 22.8 LXQt – Build 220814
I have made a new version of ExTiX – The Ultimate Linux System. I call it ExTiX 22.8 LXQt Live DVD. (The previous LXQt version was 21.11 from 211030). ExTiX 22.8 is based on Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS (Jammy Jellyfish)! Ubuntu 22.04 will be supported until 2027. The best thing with ExTiX 22.8 is that while running the system live (from DVD/USB) or from hard drive you can use Refracta Snapshot (pre-installed) to create your own live installable Ubuntu system. So easy that a ten year child can do it! One other very good thing with this version of ExTiX is that it is quite light. The ISO file is of only 1820 MB, which means that you can run the system super fast from RAM. When the boot process is ready you can eject the DVD or USB stick. Use Boot alternative 3 or Advanced options… >> load to RAM.

ABOUT
ExTiX 22.8
LXQt DVD 64 bit is based on Debian Sid and Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS. The original system includes the Desktop Environment Gnome. After removing Gnome I have installed LXQt 0.17. PuppEX Bookworm64 with Tint2 as DE :: Build 220807

NEWS ABOUT PuppEX Bookworm64 Build 220807
My new Puppy Linux derivative is built using the Bookworm Build Script. It is compatible with Debian Bookworm – upcoming Debian 12. This version of PuppEX uses Tint2 as Desktop environment (DE). It is for UEFI computers and non-UEFI computers. This PuppEX version runs very well in VirtualBox/VMware. You can run it in full screen in VirtualBox, since VirtualBox Guest Additions are pre-installed. Watch this screenshot…

Debian 12
Compatible with Debian 12
means that you can use the apt command. (apt update, apt upgrade, apt install MyUsefulPackage etc) and Synaptic for installing thousands of new Debian packages in PuppEX. All PuppEX Bookworm64 versions can easily be installed manually to hard drive if you have at least one Linux system installed. You must also use Grub as boot loader. Read more about how to do that at the INFO site.
