EXTON OpSuS (openSUSE) Tumbleweed with KDE Plasma 6.5.2, Refracta Snapshot and kernel 6.17.4-amd64-exton :: Build 251122

EXTON OpSuS Tumbleweed is based on openSUSE Tumbleweed, which is a rolling distribution. I.e. no need for new installations. Just run the command sudo zypper dup and you will always get the latest stable packages/kernels. The ISO files are of 2640MB (GNOME version) respectively 3030 MB (KDE version). Both versions will thus run very fast from a DVD or a USB stick. Even in VirtualBox/VMware directly from the ISO file.

ABOUT Tumbleweed
With Tumbleweed you don’t have to take difficult decisions about things you value, either freedom or safety, either control or security, technology or stability — Tumbleweed lets you have your cake and eat it too.

EXTON OpSuS Tumbleweed with KDE Plasma 6.5.2 Desktop Environment Build 251122
This OpSuS version uses kernel 6.17.4-amd64-exton. Installed programs: Among many other programs, Firefox, NetworkManager, GParted and a lot of special KDE packages. You’ll run the system as the normal user user or as root. The password for user is live. Root’s password is root. EXTON OpSuS KDE can easily be installed to hard drive (of those who so desire). For that you shall use Refracta Installer. All packages have been updated to the latest available version as of November 22, 2025.
NOTE1
:  When the boot process is ready you will end up at LightDM’s login screen. You can log in to the KDE Plasma Desktop as user with password live or as root with password root. You will see this first screen when logged in to KDE as the normal user user.
NOTE2: When logged in as root you won’t have sound. Watch a screenshot of the KDE Desktop for root.
NOTE3: Version 251122 of EXTON OpSuS can run on really old computers. As an example I could run it on my 19 years old laptop Acer Aspire 5102 WLMi. Not very fast, but still…
NOTE4: Use Refracta Snapshot to build your very own version of EXTON OpSuS/openSUSE. I.e. you can change everything to you liking and quickly create a new ISO file. Your own.
NOTE5:
Kernel 6.17.4-amd64-exton is used when running EXTON OpSuS LIVE. When running the System from hard drive you can use openSUSE’s kernel. Right now version 6.17.8.
NOTE6: To be able to use Refracta Snapshot you’ll have to keep “my” kernel 6.17.4-amd64-exton in /boot and also the links to said kernel in /. (/vmlinuz and /initrd.img).
NOTE7: The KDE version 251122 works very well in VirtualBox and VMware. Version 251120 did not work so well in VirtualBox. That is the main reason for the new Build of 251122.
NOTE8: The KDE version works very well on all “normal” computers. I could run the system on my six different computers. If you have at least 6GB RAM (maybe just 4GB) you can choose boot alternative 2 – “Load to RAM”. (The best way to run any Linux system). Watch this screenshot.
NOTE9: EXTON OpSuS is a LIVE system, which means that you can try it before you install it. The official openSUSE distribution must be installed immediately.
NOTE 10: When logging in to the KDE Plasma Desktop you can choose between the X11 server and Wayland – screenshot. Wayland is the modern, more secure, and efficient replacement for the older X11 display server.

DebEX Gnome – based on Debian “trixie” (upcoming Debian 13) – with GNOME 48, Calamares Installer and Refracta Snapshot :: Build 250709

NEWS 250709 about DebEX Gnome – a Refracta efi Build
I have made a new extra version of DebEX, which I call DebEX Gnome Live System. It’s a pure Debian system using the testing (trixie – upcoming Debian 13) repositories. GNOME 48 is used as Desktop Environment. I have removed the Mate Desktop, since Gnome now can be used on all kind of computers. Also when running DebEX Gnome in VirtualBox and VMware. No need for Nvidia’s proprietary graphics drivers when running this new version of DebEX. You can of course install such drivers if you want to. Furthermore I have replaced Google Chrome with Firefox ESR. It is now possible to watch Netflix movies using Firefox ESR in Linux. I have also replaced Refracta Installer with Calamares Installer, which makes it possible to install DebEX Gnome in any language. You can even use Calamares in VirtualBox and VMware – i.e. non-efi computers. All installed packages have been updated to the latest version as of 250709. DebEX Gnome uses kernel 6.15.5-amd64-exton.
NOTE: Refracta Installer is not really “replaced” by Calamares. You can/should use Refracta Installer in VirtualBox/VMware.

Important about Refracta Snapshot
You can use Refracta Snapshot (pre-installed in three versions of DebEX) to create your own installable Debian Live System once you have installed DebEX to hard drive. I mean change everything and then create a new ISO.  Your own.

THE REAL McCoy
DebEX is a pure Debian system. I.e. no traces of Ubuntu, Kubuntu etc. New releases of Ubuntu are always based on Debian Sid. So is DebEX.

SCREENSHOTS
1. The Desktop for the ordinary user user
2. The Desktop for root – Calamares is running
3. Running in full screen in VirtualBox

DebEX KDE Plasma based on Debian Trixie (upcoming Debian 13) with Refracta Snapshot and Calamares Installer :: Build 250707

NEWS 250707 about DebEX KDE Plasma – a Refracta Build
I have made a new extra version of DebEX KDE Plasma Live System – efi. It’s a pure Debian Sid/Trixie (upcoming Debian 13) System. There are no Ubuntu or Kubuntu elements involved in DebEX. DebEX KDE Plasma Sid uses the KDE Plasma Desktop 6.3.5 – latest version, released 250506 – as Desktop environment. Kernel 6.15.3-amd64-exton is used. All included packages have been updated to the latest version as of 250707.

VirtualBox Guest Additions and VMware Tools are pre-installed, which mean that you can run DebEX KDE in full screen – see the screenshots below.

MOST IMPORTANT CHANGES in DebEX KDE
A) I’ve installed the full KDE Plasma Desktop using the command sudo apt install task-kde-desktop. In order to save space I have removed LibreOffice with the command sudo apt remove libreoffice* B) I have added Calamares 3.3.14-1 Installer Framework. Now you can choose language when the installation starts. When it’s ready everything will be in your chosen language! You can even use Calamares in VirtualBox and VMware – i.e. non-efi computers without problems. It works very well!
NOTE: You can also use Refracta Installer. Preferably in VirtualBox/VMware. NOTE ALSO: When running DebEX KDE in VirtualBox you can do it in full screen since VirtualBox Guest Additions are pre-installed. Watch this screenshot.

THE REAL McCoy
DebEX is a pure Debian system. I.e. no traces of Ubuntu, Kubuntu etc. New releases of Ubuntu are always based on Debian Sid. So is DebEX.

ArchEX BUILD 250504 with LXQt 2.2.0, Calamares Installer 3.3.15 and kernel 6.14.4-arch1-2

I’ve made a new extra version of ArchEX with the LXQt 2.2.0 Desktop Environment. LXQt 2.2.0 was released 250417. LXQt is a lightweight Qt desktop environment. It will not get in your way. It will not hang or slow down your system. It is focused on being a classic desktop with a modern look and feel. I’ve also managed to install Calamares Installer from source in ArchEX LXQt. It means that you can install ArchEX LXQt in any language. Everything will then be in your chosen language when the installation has completed.

Study all installed packages in ArchEX LXQt.

How To dual boot, triple boot or multi boot Linux with Windows in a simple way and be happy
Before installing ArchEX or any other Linux system my general installation instructions may be of interest.

WHO should run Arch Linux?

My answer: The system fits the “advanced” Linux user/enthusiast, who would be willing to run an occasional command from time to time.

BENEFITS of ArchEX/Arch Linux
“Cutting Edge”-software and speed. You will for example always run the latest kernel if you upgrade ArchEX/Arch (for example) every month.

CruxEX 3.8 Linux Live System based on CRUX 3.8 released 250421 :: Build 250427

CruxEX 2025 64 bit Linux Live System is based on CRUX 3.8 (latest version, released 250421), which is all Linux enthusiasts/nerds favorite OS. (CRUX is a lightweight Linux distribution for the x86_64 architecture targeted at experienced Linux users. The primary focus of this distribution is keep it simple, which is reflected in a straightforward tar.gz-based package system, BSD-style initscripts, and a relatively small collection of trimmed packages. The secondary focus is utilization of new Linux features and recent tools and libraries. CRUX also has a ports system which makes it easy to install and upgrade applications). CruxEX 3.8 2025 uses the LXDE Desktop environment. I have replaced the original CRUX kernel with “my” special kernel 6.14.2-amd64-exton with support for “extra everything”.

Unique
CruxEX 3.8 Build 250427 is – as my previous CRUX-remasters – unique in the world. I.e. there is no other CRUX Live CD/USB (as far as I know). In any case, not for downloading. The good thing with CruxEX is that it is a live system (which CRUX original isn’t) and that you can run CruxEX super fast from RAM. Also that you can install CruxEX to hard drive in about 5 minutes and then have a ready-to-go CRUX desktop system. You can after that install any (extra) desktop environment you like. Note also: To make CRUX original ready for everyday use will normally take 2 – 3 days!

ABOUT Refracta Snapshot
With Refracta Snapshot you can very easy create you own CRUX Live Installable System. I mean change everything to your liking and then create a new ISO. That can be done after a hard drive installation using Refracta Installer. If you have plenty of RAM you can even create a new ISO while running CruxEX live!

A new updated version of CruxEX 3.7 (CRUX 3.7) with LXDE, Refracta Snapshot, Refracta Installer and kernel 6.11.0-rc5-amd64-exton :: Build 240910

CruxEX 2024/2022 64 bit Linux Live CD/USB is based on CRUX 3.7 (latest version, released 220926), which is all Linux enthusiasts/nerds favorite OS. CruxEX 3.7 2024/2022 uses the LXDE Desktop environment. I have replaced the original CRUX kernel 5.15 with “my” special kernel 6.11.0-rc5-amd64-exton/6.6.1-amd64-exton respectively 6.0.6-aufs-exton, with support for “extra everything”.

NEWS ABOUT CruxEX BUILD 240910
I’ve made a new extra version of CruxEX which I call CruxEX Linux Live System. It replaces version 231208. This CruxEX version is distributed as a “normal” ISO file. (Build 221031 is distributed as a Zip file only to be installed on a USB stick). I have kept CruxEX Build 221031 on SourceForge’s server because that version can run from a USB stick with PERSISTENCE. I.e. all system changes will be saved directly on the USB stick. In CruxEX Build 240910 I have managed to install Refracta Snapshot and Refracta Installer. With Refracta Snapshot you can very easy create you own CRUX Live Installable System. I mean change everything to your liking and then create a new ISO. That can be done after a hard drive installation using Refracta Installer. If you have plenty of RAM you can even create a new ISO while running CruxEX live! In that case you may have to change the place where the new ISO will be saved. Just edit /etc/refractasnapshot.conf. Watch this screenshot. Change home to (for example) /mnt/sdd2 (which has to be a Linux partition). You’ll have to mount /dev/sdd2 before starting Refracta Snapshot from the menu. Command: mount /dev/sdd2 /mnt/sdd2.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Kernel 6.11.0-rc5-amd64-exton will be used after a hard drive installation of CruxEX Build 240910. If you want to build your own CruxEX version/system you’ll have to use kernel 6.6.1-amd64-exton while running Refracta Snapshot.

Unique
CruxEX 3.7 2024/2022 Build 240910/221031 is – as my previous CRUX-remasters – unique in the world. I.e. there is no other CRUX Live CD/USB (as far as I know). NOTE: You can (of course) install new Desktops environments and other stuff also when running CruxEX from a USB stick – PERSISTENCE! (Only as regards Build 221031). Note also: To make CRUX original ready for everyday use will normally take 2 – 3 days!

News 231212/231211 about Exton|Defender

News 231212/231211 about Exton|Defender based on upcoming Fedora 40 and Exton|Defender based on Rocky Linux 9.2
I had to upload new versions of Exton|Defender today and yesterday since I discovered a way to run both Exton|Defender versions from RAM also when starting Exton|Defender in UEFI mode. The previous Exton|Defender versions could only run from RAM if they started up in Legacy mode. So my advice is to run Exton|Defender SUPER FAST from RAM! The best way to run a Linux Live System! When Exton|Defender has booted up you can remove/eject the USB stick or the DVD. NOTE ALSO: In version 231212/231211 I’ve managed to change Refracta Installer and Refracta Snapshot to GUI (Graphical User Interface) apps! They are therefore even easier to handle now! IMPORTANT NOTE: On some computers Exton|Defender still can’t run from RAM in UEFI mode. Only in Legacy mode. I don’t know why. Sort of a mystery.

EXTON OpSuS Tumbleweed (openSUSE) 64 bit Deepin 20.6 UEFI Linux Live System – Build 230215

EXTON OpSuS Tumbleweed is based on openSUSE Tumbleweed, which is a rolling distribution. I.e. no need for new installations. Just run the command sudo zypper dup and you will always get the latest stable packages/kernels. The ISO file is only of 1570 MB so you will run the system very fast from a DVD or a USB stick. Even in VirtualBox/VMware directly from the ISO file.

ABOUT EXTON OpSuS for PC’s
EXTON OpSuS Tumbleweed Build 230215 with Deepin 20.6 uses kernel 6.1.10-1. Installed programs: Among many other programs, Firefox, NetworkManager, GParted and Calamares Installer. Study all installed packages.

ABOUT the Deepin Desktop Environment
Deepin DE (made in China!) is devoted to providing a beautiful, easy to use, safe and reliable system for global users. I came to like the Deepin DE very much when I installed it in ExTiX and ArchEX. So I thought why not install the Deepin DE also in EXTON OpSuS?

The system language is English
.

Enjoy persistence when running the system from a USB stick
You must use the dd-command to achieve persistence. Read about it on the INFO site,

Is EXTON OpSuS Deepin/LXQt Build 230215/230212 unique?
If you have a look at openSUSE’s official Download site you can see that there is no live Deepin or LXQt version available.

Exton|Defender (Fedora Rawhide/38) with the Cinnamon 5.6.5 Desktop and kernel 6.2-rc5-fc38 :: Build 230201

ABOUT BOTH Exton|Defender versions
Exton|Defender SRS – based on Fedora “Rawhide” (upcoming Fedora 38), 64 bit – is a Linux system available as a Live USB/DVD for administrating or repairing your system and data after a crash. It aims to provide an easy way to carry out admin tasks on your computer, such as creating and editing the hard disk partitions. It comes with a lot of Linux software such as system tools and basic tools (editors, Midnight Commander, network tools). Exton|Defender can, however, also be used as a normal Linux Desktop System. It requires no installation, but can be installed to hard drive if you like. Desktop Environments: Deepin 20.8 (in Build 230130) and Cinnamon 5.6.5 (in Build 230201). Used kernel in both versions: 6.2.rc5-fc38.

NEWS 230201 about Exton|Defender fc38 (Fedora 38)
I’ve made a new extra version of Exton|Defender 64 bit based on Fedora “Rawhide” (the development version of Fedora). I.e. upcoming Fedora 38. The new version uses the Cinnamon 5.6.5 Desktop and kernel 6.2-rc5-fc38. All other installed packages are the same as in version 230130. Study all installed packages.
NOTE: Version 230201 of Exton|Defender can run on really old computers. As an example I could run it on my 17 years old laptop Acer Aspire 5102 WLMi. Watch this screenshot.

ABOUT the Cinnamon Desktop Environment
Cinnamon is a free and open-source desktop environment for Linux and Unix-like operating systems, deriving from GNOME 3 but following traditional desktop metaphor conventions. Read more about Cinnamon. And read also a review of Cinnamon 5.6.
