Run ArchEX (Arch Linux) 64/32 Bit dual Build 160724 with kernel 4.6.4 and LXDE superfast!

archex-desktop-160724-smallWHAT IS ArchEX dual?
ArchEX 64bit/32bit dual is a new (160724) Linux live DVD based on Arch Linux. Arch motto is KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid). ArchEX uses kernel 4.6.4-1-ARCH (latest) and the LXDE Desktop environment.

INSTALLED SOFTWARE
Among many other programs, Firefox, Gimp, GCC, Wicd and GParted – study this package LIST.

INSTALLATION to hard drive
ArchEX can easily be installed to hard drive of those who so desire. Use ArchEX Installer. I.e. while running ArchEX live from the DVD. Read this INSTRUCTION.

Install ArchEX to a USB Pen Drive with persistence
Please read my INSTRUCTION. All your system changes will be saved directly on the stick.

Rolling distribution
Arch Linux/ArchEX are rolling distributions, which implies that once you have installed the system on the hard drive there is no need for re-installations (which otherwise is common in the Linux world).

WHO should run Arch Linux?
My answer: The system fits the “advanced” Linux user/enthusiast, who would be willing to run an occasional command from time to time.

BENEFITS of ArchEX/Arch Linux
“Cutting Edge”-software and speed. You will for example always run the latest kernel if you upgrade ArchEX/Arch (for example) every month.

ExLight 64 bit Linux Live DVD with Enlightenment 0.20.99.0 and kernel 4.6.2-exlight

exlight-change-to-animated-wallpaper-smallWHAT’S NEW IN VERSION 160612?
1. ExLight is now based on Ubuntu 16.04 (alias Xenial Xerus) and Debian 8.5 Jessie.
2. I have upgraded the Desktop environment Enlightenment (Beauty at your fingertips) to version 0.20.99.0 (from 0.19.12).
3. I have replaced kernel 4.2.0-16-exton with kernel 4.6.2-exlight.
4. ExLight’s ISO file is now a ISO-hybrid, which means that it can very easily be transferred (copied) to a USB pen drive. You can then even run ExLight from the USB stick and save all your system changes on the stick. I.e. you will enjoy persistence!
5. Another big improvement is that ExLight can run from RAM. Use Boot alternative 3 (Copy to RAM). When the system has booted up you can remove the disc (DVD) or USB stick. You’ll need at least 2 GB RAM to run ExLight that way.
6. The installation program Ubiquity (live installer) is now working as intended in ExLight version 160612. I.e. a new user (your user) will be created during the installation process.
7. I have pre-installed Nvidia proprietary Graphics driver 361.45.11.
8. I have added three animated wallpapers.

What’s new in kernel 4.6?

exton-os-logo-worldNEWS 160514 ABOUT Exton|OS with Mate 1.14.0
After the 160512 Build with Mate 1.12.7 I “discovered” that Mate 1.14.0 was released in April 2016. The new 1.14.0 Mate packages are yet not available from the Ubuntu repositories so I had to install them from source. While I was at it I upgraded Vlc from version 2.1.3 to 2.2.3. Vlc is also installed from source to make it possible to run it as root. Study the NEW PACKAGE list.

WHAT’S NEW in MATE 1.14?

The headline changes in MATE 1.14 are:

Improved GTK+3 support across the entire MATE Desktop.
Full GTK 3.20 support in all MATE themes.
Client Side Decorated applications render correctly in all themes.
Touchpad configuration now supports edge and two-finger scrolling independently.
Python extensions in Caja can now be managed separately.
All three window focus modes are selectable.
MATE Panel now has the ability to change icon sizes for menubar and menu items.

LFA Build 160419, 64 bit, based on Ubuntu 16.04, with Fluxbox as Window Manager and Cairo-Dock as Desktop Interface

linux-logo-exton-lfaAbout Linux For All (LFA)
The system is based on Ubuntu 16.04, codenamed Xenial Xerus and Debian Jessie (Debian 8.4).
It’s a total rebuild. I.e. nothing is left of the old LFA system.

The system language is ENGLISH.

NEWS 160419
A new upgraded version of LFA is out. All installed packages have been updated to the latest version as of 160419.

News about LFA build 160419
One of my previous versions of LFA (build 141120) had four (4) Desktop environments installed. Namely Unity (Ubuntu), LXDE, Razor-qt and XBMC. LFA build 160419 uses only Fluxbox as Window Manager and Cairo-Dock as Desktop Interface. Cairo-Dock is designed to be light, fast and customizable, and is desktop-agnostic. It has a powerful DBus interface, to be controlled from a terminal or another application. Features can be added by plug-ins or applets, and applets can be written in C or in any language. About Fluxbox: Fluxbox is a Window Manager for X that was based on the Blackbox 0.61.1 code. It is very light on resources and easy to handle but yet full of features to make an easy, and extremely fast, desktop experience. So who needs KDE or Gnome?

Used KERNEL
My special kernel 4.4.0-19-exton.

What’s new in kernel 4.4?

CruxEX (CRUX 3.2) live CD/USB with kernel 4.5.1-cruxex and Nvidia Graphics driver 361.42 pre-installed

logo-linux-exton-netI have made yet another version of CruxEX.

CruxEX 3.2 64 bit Linux Live CD/USB is based on CRUX 3.2 (latest version, released 151123), which is all Linux enthusiasts/nerds favorite OS. (CRUX 3.2 is a lightweight Linux distribution for the x86-64 architecture targeted at experienced Linux users). CruxEX 3.2 2016 uses the LXDE Desktop environment. I have replaced the original CRUX kernel with “my” special kernel 4.5.1-cruxex, with support for “extra everything”.

Kernel etc
Kernel 4.5.1 is the latest available stable kernel as of 160414. Among all installed and updated applications are Firefox, GParted, Gimp and Wicd. Furthermore compilation tools so that you can install programs from source.

NEWS 160414
CruxEX 2016 is distributed both as an ISO file and a Zip file. Install my new version of CruxEX 3.2 64bit from 160414 to a USB Pen Drive and save your system changes – read this INSTRUCTION. If you later on decide you want to install CruxEX to hard drive from the USB Pen Drive all your system changes will also be installed to the hard drive. Or burn the ISO file to a CD and run CruxEX live the “normal” way. Mainly the ISO file is for all of you who like to run and test Linux systems in VirtualBox (before installing the systems to hard drive).

Exton|OS Light build 160207 :: Based on upcoming Ubuntu 16.04 with kernel 4.4.0-3-exton (4.4.1)

exton-os-logo-worldNEWS 160207 about Exton|OS Light Live DVD – ISO file of 912 MB
I’ve made a new extra version of Exton|OS based on upcoming Ubuntu 16.04 (alias Xenial Xerus) 64 bit with only a minimum of packages pre-installed. Among them a terminal emulator (LXTerminal), a Web Browser (Google Chrome – so you can run Netflix), PCManFM (file manager), NetworkManager, GParted (Partition Editor), Samba (so you can reach your Windows computers) and Synaptic (Package Manager). I give you the pleasure of installing all extra packages you need after a hard disk installation of Exton|OS Light. Use Synaptic for that. You can of course also install new packages while running the system live (from DVD/USB stick), but nothing will be saved after a reboot. Unless you have followed my USB Install Instruction (under B) or used UNetbootin) and used Boot alternative 2 – Persistent when you have used UNetbootin. If you have plenty of RAM you can even install big programs (such as LibreOffice) while running the system live even from DVD. Exton|OS Light’s Window manager Openbox guarantees lightness and elegance.

Replacement
This version of Exton|OS Light from 160207 replaces version 151103 of Exton|OS Light. Exton|OS Light is now based on Debian Stretch/Sid and Ubuntu 16.04.

About

Exton|OS Light Live CD is based on Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial Xerus 64 bit and Debian Stretch/Sid. Exton|OS Light’s ISO file (of 911 MB!) is a ISO-hybrid, which means that it can very easily be transferred (copied) to an USB pen drive. You can then even run Exton|OS from the USB stick and save all your system changes on the stick. I.e. you will enjoy persistence! Read my USB INSTRUCTION under B).

Packages
All installed packages in Exton|OS Light have been updated to the latest available version as at February 7, 2016. Study the full package list.

Used KERNEL
My special kernel 4.4.0-3-exton, equivalent to Kernel.org’s latest stable kernel 4.4.1. You can download “my” kernel if you want to use it in another Ubuntu/Debian system.

What’s new in kernel 4.4.1?

The importance of Exton|OS Light now being based on Ubuntu 16.04 (unstable/development)
I don’t think it is too important since Exton|OS doesn’t use complicated Desktop Environments like KDE, Gnome or Unity. Programs won’t crash or anything like that. And I haven’t discovered any bugs to report.

See a screenshot of Exton|OS Light’s Openbox Desktop

SlackEX (Slackware Current/14.2) with KDE 4.14.3 (latest) and kernel 4.4.1 (latest)

slackware_logoSlackEX is based on Slackware Current/14.2. Slackware is the first widely-used Linux system, which is still developing. Slackware has existed since 1993. The older the fiddle the sweeter the tune or as we say in Sweden: Gammal är äldst.

New features in version 160203 of SlackEX
I have replaced kernel 4.3.1-x86_64-exton with kernel 4.4.1-exton-huge with support for “everything”. Most important is that I have changed repositories from Slackware 14.1 to Current. I.e. upcoming Slackware 14.2. KDE is upgraded to version 4.14.3 (latest KDE version). All other component software is also upgraded to the latest Slackware Current version by now. I may also mention in particular GParted 0.24.0 (latest, not in Slackware’s repositories), VirtualBox 5.0.14 (latest, not in Slackware’s repositories), Google Chrome 46.0.2490.86 (not in Slackware’s repositories), Gimp 2.8.10 (installed from source), GSlapt 0.5.3h, Firefox 43.0.4, Thunderbird 38.5, Samba 4.3.2 and GCC 5.3.0. Furthermore I have installed Grub2, which can be used as boot loader (if you want) after a hard drive install. Study the full package LIST. Note: I have replaced Wicd with NetworkManager. It works better.

Used kernel
4.4.1-exton-huge with support for “everything”. Kernel 4.4.1 was released 160131.

What’s new in kernel 4.4.1?

Nvidia
Nvidia’s proprietary Graphics driver 352.79 (latest driver) is installed.

Install SlackEX to a USB stick
Please read my INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS. NOTE: All system changes are PERSISTENT.

Why Slackware?
Slackware is grossly underestimated (in my opinion). This article give you ten (10) reasons to choose Slackware.

exGENT (Gentoo) 64 bit Linux Live DVD with kernel 4.4 – Build 160123

gentooNEWS 20160123 ABOUT exGENT
I’ve made yet a new version (20160123) of exGENT based on Gentoo Linux. Now with Xfce 4.12.1 and kernel 4.4. It’s for the 64 bit architecture. I call it exGENT 2016 Xfce4 Live DVD. It replaces version 20141227. The ISO file is of 2280 MB due to the fact that this version has a lot of packages pre-installed. Among them two different Web Browsers: Firefox and Opera. Despite this exGENT version 160123 runs surprisingly fast from DVD or USB. Even in VirtualBox. Faster than most other Linux live systems. All installed packages in exGENT have been updated to the latest available version by 160123.

Used KERNEL
My special kernel 4.4.0-gentoo-exton corresponding Kernel.org’s kernel 4.4. It’s the latest stable kernel as of now.

What’s new in kernel 4.4?

Programs etc
The best thing with exGENT is the premier auto detection of hardware and the ability to easily install the system to hard drive during a live session. Installed programs: Among many others GParted, GNU Emacs, Firefox, Thunderbird, Samba, AbiWord, Nvidia Graphics driver 352.63 and NetworkManager. Furthermore compilation tools so that you can install programs from source the Gentoo way. (After the installation to hard drive).

Quick install to Hard Drive
exGENT Linux can be installed to hard drive in 3 – 10 min. (Depending on computer type). This means that all of you who might hesitate to perform a normal Gentoo installation – which can take up to a couple of days – now have the chance to get this great Linux system (Gentoo) installed on your computers very easy.

UPGRADE the System

The exGENT System (version 160123) is in very good shape, since I, without problems, have been able to update the whole system with the following commands:
# emerge –ask –update –newuse –deep –with-bdeps=y @world
# emerge –depclean
# revdep-rebuild
(Since I haven’t upgraded exGENT since 20141227 it now took me four (4) days to upgrade/compile all included packages).

SPOTIFY
You can easy and quick install Spotify in exGENT. Just run the command emerge spotify. The installation takes about 1 min.

Who is exGENT/Gentoo for?
Experienced Linux users or those who really want to learn Linux.

What happened to the 32 bit version?
Please note that the 32 bit version of exGENT from December 2014 won’t be upgraded. I have deleted the ISO file from the servers. Almost no downloads! I guess 32 bit Linux systems are out of fashion nowadays.
